Day 8: April 27, 2010

Well, this has been a rocket of a last 24 hours or so. I had a horrible relapse last night that resulted in lots of crying. But, my daddy called me this evening during dinner and made my whole day so much better. First, apparently Tori has changed her mind and is no longer a future WVU Mountaineer, but rather a future CAPTAIN! Oh my gosh I never thought this day would come. I was absolutely ecstatic when he put her on the phone and she confirmed it herself: she wants to come to my beloved Christopher Newport.

But then he kind of picked on me because apparently I don't brag enough about how awesome he is, and he reminded me of our family vacation that's in the works right now. This was my little wonder of the day, thinking about our trip this October to see the Cowboys-Vikings game in Minnesota. For those of you who don't know, the Trail's have been Vikings fans forever. And by forever I mean for eternity. My daddy was lucky enough to have a family of all girls, and football is his favorite thing about life, unfortunately he never had a son to pass down his football knowledge to. But, we all learned how to play and all of the rules of the game when we were little, and we to this day always watch the games with him, but now, now we get to go to Mall of America Field! (As to whether or not Brett will be there...you're guess is as good as mine! Haha!)

So, here's a cute little story for you:

Several years ago, around mid-March, Daddy came home one night after a little outing and proclaimed to the family that he had found what he wanted for his birthday, Father's Day, Christmas, and any other holiday possible for years and years to come. Instantly we were all curious as to what this "glorious gift" would be. He announced that there was an autographed Fran Tarkenton jersey for sale at the mall. (For those of you who don't know-Fran Tarkenton is one of the great Vikings quarterbacks. He was drafted to the Vikings in '61 and was a 9-time Pro-Bowler.) We were ecstatic: my daddy is so selfless and is always taking care of us (and complete strangers, for that matter) so this was our way to thank him. Mama piled my sisters and I up in the minivan the next day, and we were off to the mall. She put it on layaway so Daddy wouldn't be able to find it around the house somewhere, and we pinky promised that we wouldn't tell. It was our little secret, a "Divine Secret of the Trail Sisterhood," if you will. About a week went by and Daddy had decided he wanted to take us to the mall to show us his beloved jersey. We got there and it wasn't on display anymore, Daddy inquired and found out that someone had bought it. (May I point out that at this point and time, being almost 14, it was IMPOSSIBLE to keep this a secret.) Daddy was mortified, how dare someone buy HIS jersey. Time went on, and he slowly got over it. Then Christmas came, and the last gift to be opened was to Daddy from all of his girls. Mama and Tori had done a great job at wrapping it about 100 times over, and when he pulled out the knife to tear through a few layers of wrapping paper, we all freaked. Once he saw the purple of the jersey, he cried. The only time I've ever seen my father cry was over a jersey. A week later it was framed, and to this day, the autographed Fran Tarkenton jersey hangs on the wall of our family room-it's one of the first things you see when you walk into the house. My daddy loves this thing, sometimes we think he loves the jersey more than he loves his girls!

Sorry there's no picture tonight, this stupid photo uploader is down, but I promise I'll put up more pictures soon. Needless to say, I'm looking very forward to Sunday, October 17, when my Vikes crush Tony and the Boys.
